The Jazzit PEG Review checklists have been updated for Business combinations. These modules are dated January 26, 2024 in your Review checklist Resource Centre.

As there were numerous minor stability issues resolved for this release, it is recommended that the Quick Method of updating be used, and the Regular Method not be used, as recommended on the JZCARVUP control document in the PEG Review Resource Centre (the PEG Review KLIB file).

You must have Caseware Working Papers 2023 installed if you wish to update the PEG Review Resource Centre and Master file.

 SC2 – Generic 9 column with subtotals

  • We have completely overhauled SC2 into a 9 column schedule, complete with six sections, running totals, and total balance transfers to either the Income Statement or Balance Sheet.
    You can view the comprehensive guide on this feature here, or watch the video found here

FSSCH21-30 – External schedule 21 to 30

  • We have expanded the number of schedules available in the financial statements to 30! These are added as external documents and incorporate directly into your financial statements.
    For a detailed guide on how to insert the additional schedules to your Resource Centre and client files, please read the instruction provided here

SCRATIOS – Key Performance Indicators

  • Added the option to program up to 5 periods for the graphs, charts, and tables
    Please note: The month heading can be switched on (off by default) in the schedule settings area. Also when the month heading is on, you can edit this field as desired (e.g. QTR 1... etc)

CP – Home Menu

  • Reduced the size and spacing of the diagnostics warnings in the Home Menu to use less screen space when displayed
  • Changed the background colors of the diagnostics warnings for better legibility
  • Added a “Completing update” message on the Home Menu when updating any module
  • Updated certain diagnostics warnings to make them more understandable and relevant to the financial statements

IS/IS2 – Income Statements

  • Added the option to include a page break above any section using right-click functionality

IU – Account Analysis

  • Added mapping for the Comprehensive income items (292.0001, 292.0002, 292.0003) to the Equity section of the template
  • Added back the comments columns to the right of the columns, with the option to hide, display only or display and print
    Please note: There are certain conditions which must be met for this functionality to display correctly. Firstly, there must be ATLEAST ONE amount column selected for the comments to print, and if too many columns are selected (13+) the comments will not be able to print

JZl1 – Letter to the lawyer

  • Added a section for disclosing of capital dividends declaration and payment

BS/BS2/BS3 – Balance Sheets

  • Added formatting options to the contingent liability/lease commitments section of the Balance Sheets together with the option to insert manual lines if needed

EL – Engagement letter

  • Audit, Review, Notice to Reader - Updated wording from the latest CPA CPEM July 2016 release

RL – Client’s Representation letter

  • Updated wording from the latest CPA CPEM July 2016 release

GS – GST/HST reconciliation (detailed)

  • Updated GST/HST rates for NL and NB to 15% effective from July 1, 2016

Thanks to everyone who sent in their feedback to us! The following changes are included in the April 29, 2016 Jazzit Fundamentals update:


 

CP – Home Menu

  • The Home Menu has been updated to allow updating of a client file with a single click. When two or more templates are out of date in a client file, a “Complete all Admin updates” button will appear in the Home Menu. Clicking on this button will update all out of date templates

  • The Home Menu can now be locked into the freeze and follow you throughout the financial statements. Locking the Home Menu in the freeze allow you to access tab functionality throughout the financial statements and make changes without losing the place you were reviewing and seeing changes made in real time. (The only exception to this is the Column Settings on the 9 column financial statements and the Admin tab)

  • Double clicking on the client name in the Home Menu brings up a summary of the file. Some of the information included in this window include: entity structure, engagement type, the current net income as per the CaseWare trial balance, and the location of the file
  • The Home Menu has been updated to indicate which column setup the current client file is using, i.e. 2 or 9 column financial statements. This reference can be seen on the right side of the client name
  • Added a diagnostic which will warn the user when the financial statements have been set to display print lines only
  • Added a diagnostic which will warn the user when the financial statements identifier has been changed from the default “FS”
  • The ‘Save & Exit’ button’s tooltip now displays the date and time of when the file was last saved

 

K8 – Financial Instruments

  • (Option 1) The currency risk section of the Financial Instruments note now features a table to show amounts in foreign currency together with a paragraph afterwards to explain any details

 

RL – Client representation letter

  • The letter now has the ability to switch the signatures lines ON/OFF (in accordance with the changes made to sample letter CPEM A4.1). This setting can be found under the letter options settings

 

SCMGTR – Management’s Responsibility (PSAB)

  • Update the wording if the client structure is set to PSAB

 

IS2 – 9 column Income Statement (PSAB)

  • The budget column in the Statement of Changes in Net Financial Assets will no longer need to be balanced if there is no budget column in the Balance Sheet

  • The budget column in the Statement of Changes in Accumulated Surplus can now be turned ON/OFF if there is no budget column in the Balance Sheet

K7 – Share Capital

  • (Default) Subtotals can now be added to the ‘Issued’ and ‘Share presented under liabilities’ tables

KE – Long term investments

  • (Option 3) Added the option for subheadings and subtotals in the 5 existing sections
  • (Option 3) Also added option to specify entity (default for section and/or on individual lines)

 

GS - GST/HST reconciliation detailed working paper

  • Added the +/- button to linked lines in both the Revenue and Expense areas

Merging of farming modules

  • We have merged certain farming templates together to be seamless across regular and farming files This change does not require any additional effort on your part besides the regular update process
    Modules affected are:
    • IS – 2 column Income Statement
    • IS2 – 9 column Income Statement
    • GS – GST/HST reconciliation detailed working paper
    • IU – Account Analysis working paper
    • JZ5YRIS – 5 period Income Statement with %

CP – Home Menu

  • Updated the 'Structure' dropdown to include the option for PSAB. When selecting this option, the Engagement Report, Balance Sheet, and Income Statement, are automatically set to the correct structure for the preparation and presentation of PSAB financial statements. The Statement of Changes in Net Financial Assets is also available when PSAB is selected.


  • NOTE: This option is only available for the 9 column statements

TC – Table of Contents

  • Updated to support new PSAB statements and functionality. This module MUST be updated in your financial statements to use the Statement of Changes in Net Financial Assets

BS2 – 9 col Balance Sheet (PSAB)

  • Tangible capital assets, inventories, and prepaid expenses have been moved to the Non-Financial Assets section and adjusted rounding accordingly

  • Added the Statement of Changes in Net Financial Assets (Debt)

IS/IS2 – 2 and 9 column Income Statements

  • Added Statement of Partners' Capital Format C allowing opening balance and allocations (Format D in 9 column statements and Format C in 2 column statements)

  • Statement of Partners' Capital Format A - Added a column to allow allocation for partners' income by units instead of percentage

CA/CB/IA – Property, plant and Equipment/Intangible Assets working papers

  • Added a new group at the bottom of the working paper which can pull total balances from other external CaseWare file entities in a consolidation

K4 – Property, plant and equipment notes

  • Notes can now pull balances from other external entities in the consolidated group

  • Added an opening input paragraph to the note

KD – Marketable Securities note

  • Linked to WP and Option 2 - Notes can now pull balances from other external entities in the consolidated group

  • Schedule can now be linked to amounts from other entities in the consolidated group, along with other minor superficial fixes and changes

  • Added option to program the 5 available periods in the template options area

  • New functionality including rounding warnings, rounding to specific lines using right-click functionality, and switching header lines on/off

MS - JZMW - Market securities working papers

  • Working papers will no longer accept a disposal if number of units sold causes the ending balance to be negative

SCRATIOS – Key Performance Indicators

  • This module is now known as the Key Performance Indicators A new “Income Statement summary” table has been added to the available ratios

  • Added a ratio for Working Capital ($) and Earnings before interest and tax ($)

  • All ratios now support the ability to display as graphs, and can be shown as combinations of graph and data, graph only, or data only

  •  Each graph has its own page break option for better control over layout

  • Graph fonts can be either set to Arial or Times New Roman

  • NOTE: In order to take advantage of this new functionality, the SC Schedules Menu will also need to be updated

 

 

 IU – Account Analysis

  • The template has been redesigned for better internal use and external presentation.

  • View the template as either a “working paper” or “client version”. While in “working paper” view all the information you can expect to put into a working paper, such as mapping references, annotations, document sign-off and more, are automatically set to print. When set to “client version”, the previously mentioned information is automatically set to skip allowing for a cleaner presentation ready to be handed to your clients.

  • Support for up to 5 years with dollar and percent variances, together with vertical dividers between the years.

  • Ability to print in either legal or letter, and in landscape or portrait (NOTE: a limit of 6 columns is recommended in portrait/letter mode and 10 columns in landscape/letter mode, any more will require a combination of landscape and legal to be used).

  • Line items have been pre-populated with mapping numbers for the Balance Sheet and Income Statement sections

  • Columns for link numbers, annotations, and working paper references can be turned on/off. Also, vertical dividers between year columns can be turned on/off

New generic management report alternative to the preformatted report

  • 30 sections available for use and customization
  • Performance summary table showing key indicators for up to five years

  • Five column multi-section table with customization options to display your client's data in any way you choose

 

Added Working Capital and Revenue

  • Added new sections for working capital and total revenue

  • Increase the number of benchmark modules in the Resource Centre (JZBM) to 200

 

Enhanced functionality

  • Page breaks have been added between the ratios and components for improved layout functionality. This can either be done on each ratio individually or globally with a single button click and each ratio can be updated or replaced individually from the Resource Centre (JZBM) without having to re-do the entire document

  • The conclusion paragraph and signature lines can now be shown either after the letter or after the ratios

  • Selected benchmarks and industry are now retained after updating the template from the Resource Centre (JZBM)

  • The graphs now default to the same font as the management report and can be switched to either Arial or Times New Roman

  • Select ratios/key performance indicators directly from the ratio index with a single click

  • A document map has been added to the template for easy navigation

KK – Lease commitments

K5, KG, K9, KV – Debt notes

- Debt description now changes to past tense if the debt was repaid during the current year

 

TX – Income Taxes

- Added a new section for the calculation of capital loss carryback on a provincial level

 

JZPCCA, JZPCCB, JZPCC, JZPCD – Generic checklists

- Added to the checklists the support for folder functionality, so each section can be skipped if not in use or needed

 

- Options have been added to allow the user to select which columns clear on roll forward and which do not

 

BS, BS2, BS3 – Balance Sheets

- Added the ability to display the equity heading and a single equity line is desired

 

CL – Client Enclosure letter

- Dividend income to report – The amount of dividends to report can now be shown either with or without the amount of shares redeemed during the year

 

YC – Year-end checklist

- Revised the popup cell for “financial statements and tax returns” to work similar to the Engagement letter and Client Representation letter which now as "Provided client" field in the template options area

- Added the option to select number of copies for engagement and audit waiver (same code as Client Enclosure letter)

Introduced a new working paper which allows the preparer to make notes and considerations for the following years file preparer. This working paper does not clear on year end close so it can be completed and cleared in the following year by the next preparer

 

JZDIAG – Diagnostics report

- The diagnostics report now includes the option to specify a different threshold for diagnostics in working papers than the rounding threshold in the financial statement

 

- Diagnostic report can now either display all the diagnostics in the working paper, or hide diagnostics with values lower than the threshold set above

 

 

BS, BS2, BS3 – Balance Sheet, 9 column Balance Sheet

- Income tax payable/recoverable can now be shown as either a single amount or split between Asset/Liabilities using a right-click menu option located on the lines mapping number

 

 

- Due from/(to) related parties and Due from/(to) shareholders can now be shown as either a single amount or split between Asset/Liabilities using a right-click menu option located on the lines mapping number. This option is only available if there are no related notes for the balances in the financial statements

 

 

SC1, SC6 – 1-2 year income statement schedule, 1-9 column income statement with budget schedule

- Added the option to display descriptions on section totals similar to those found in the Income Statement, i.e. Total sales, total expenses, etc. These descriptions can also be bolded and indented if required

 

 

MS – Marketable Securities working papers

- Summary of disposals during the year – Added a “Return of capital” summary column to the table

 

K5, KG, K9, KV – Debt notes

- Added the optional wording of “which has a carrying value of $...” to each security for additional disclosure

- Added an additional input paragraph under the securities details in each working paper

 

K8 – Financial instruments

- Note has been updated with functionality more consistent with newer notes

 

 

KE – Long term investment (Default note)

- Added the ability to insert linked lines

 

JZIL – Independence letter

- Added the ability to hide the Relationship(s) to disclose and Disclose fees sections if they are not needed

 

TX – Income taxes

- Any differences in the reconciliation of provision from year to notices of assessment is also populated in the Current year’s income tax expense calculation table

- The General Rate Income Pool (GRIP) table has been updated with new column headings, newer after-tax income percentages, and a column for adjustments

*New Statement* IS2 - Statement of Changes in Equity

We have added the statement of changes in equity to the financial statements. The statement can be used as an alternative to the statement of retained earnings, and provides columns for accounts such as share capital, accumulated comprehensive income, and minority interest.

Note: This statement is selected from a dropdown in the statement of retained earnings ONLY when using the 9 column financial statements and the structure is set to a limited company. This statement also requires additional style sheets and database files updated in the Resource Centre before use.


JZUPDATE - RC Update Control

- When connected to an update folder, the JZUPDATE will now display which build version is located in the update folder.

- The status column will no longer display a warning if the module in the current Resource Centre is newer than the update folder.

 

 


CA/CB/IA - Amortization Working Papers

Added the ability to delete multiple rows in multiple tables throughout the working paper, similar to how multiple rows are inserted in the working papers, under the document option settings.

 


K3A - Significant Accounting Policies

Headings can now be shown in italics (with/without underlining and bolding).

 


KJ - Related Party Transactions - Option 2

Note now supports the ability to display as many related parties as required. Please see the first three related parties already inserted for guidance on how to create more.

 


IS/IS2 - 2 Column Income Statement / 9 Column Income Statement

The statement of changes in net assets now supports the ability to disclose prior period adjustments the same way the statement of retained earnings does.

 


CL - Client Enclosure Letter

- GST tax - Added wording for electronically filed.

Government of Canada direct deposit - Added a paragraph with wording indicating a switch to electronic filing of returns, and information on registration for the process.

 

 


EL/RP - Engagement Letter / Engagement Report

The engagement report heading can now be set to left, centre, or right aligned and the case can be in either upper or lower via the report options, found at the top of the report.

 

 


SCMGTR - Management's Responsibility for the Financial Statements

The heading for the report can now be set to left, centre, or right and the case can be in either upper or lower via the management responsibility options, found at the top of the report.

 


TC - Table of Contents

- The page title case for the engagement report is now linked to what has been selected in the engagement report options below.

- The word "Financial Statements" can now be set to upper or lower case.

- The word "Financial Statements" can now be turned off if required.

 

 

 


MG - Materiality Guidelines

Calculations of posting threshold - Section has been added back to the template and enhanced.

 


JZNET - Net Worth Statement

- The headings (including page title, signature boxes, and index number) for the statement can now be turned off if required.

- Other minor visual changes have been tweaked.

 

 


JZSR - T4 Reconciliation

The "Other deduction 1/2/3/4" columns can now be turned off and have their headings adjusted via settings in the salary reconciliation options.

 

 


CP - Home Menu

The Status column, located under Admin, will no longer display a warning if the module in the financial statements is newer than the Resource Centre.

 


BS/BS2/BS3 - 2 Column Balance Sheet, 2 Column Balance Sheet with Opening Balance, 9 Column Balance Sheet

The share capital section will now retain details for authorized and issued shares even after updated the balance sheet from the Resource Centre.

 


TX - Income Taxes

The estimated tax savings calculation has been adjusted to use the ending loss carry forward balance instead of the opening balance.

*New Document* JZNET - Net Worth Statement

We've created a statement of net worth for director's/members/owners. This document can be used as an additional working paper to summarize their net worth. NOTE: This document is manual and does not link to any trial balance information.

JZUPDATE - Update Control

We have added a new optional step in the update process.

Using the "Update all modules without customization dates" button will update ALL modules in the KLIB which have newer versions in the relevant update folder. This process should take a few seconds to complete and will not update any modules which have a customization date associated to them.

 


 

CP - Home Menu

We have added a support button in the upper right hand corner, with links to support and user resource channels.

The KLIB path can now be set by simply double clicking the director location and navigating to the desired folder.

 


 

TP - Title Page

You are now able to adjust the spacing on the Title Page on individual files. Selecting the Title Page, opening the "Title page settings" folder in the financial statements will allow the user to adjust the spacing of the wording on individual files if necessary. NOTE: The KLIB functionality for administrators remains the same if you wish to set firm-wide standards for spacing on the Title Page. 

 


SC2 - Generic 2 Column Schedules

We have added the ability to include a second description column, with note references, to each section via the right-click express button menu option.

 


BS/BS2/BS3 Balance Sheets

We have added the option to select descriptions for Total Assets, Total Liabilities, and Equity.

 


CA/CB/IA - Amortization Working Papers

We have added an extra column which shows the number of lines in a specific group, including a tool tip in the description column. The number of lines in a specific group has also been added to the Global row insertion section. This row number column is optional and can be turned off under the Column selection options.

 


 

 CL - Client Enclosure Letter

Added current and prior year end date selectors to the document options.

"Summary of corporate taxes payable (receivable)" now supports up to four columns for displaying taxes split across different levels, i.e. federal, provincial, municipal, etc.

 

 

 

 


 

EL - Engagement Letter

Review/Notice to Reader - Updated to the latest September 2015 wording as provided by CPA Canada.

Notice to Reader - Added the option to have an engagement letter for a corporate tax return only (no financial statement compilation). This option is only available if the type of engagement is set to Notice to Reader.

Notice to Reader - The last line of the engagement letter for Notice to Reader has been made consistent with that found in the Audit and Review options.

We have expanded the number and combination of salutations available under the "Attention:" and "Dear" drop downs.

 


 

RL - Client Representation Letter

Updated to the latest CPEM and PPM wording.

Notice to Reader - Added the option to have a representation letter for a corporate tax return only (no financial statement compilation).

 


 

G1 - GST/HST Reconciliation (simplified)

Added additional subtotals including lines 113A, 113B, and 113C from the quick method GST/HST form.

 


 

PE/DI - Prepaid Expenses, Deferred Income

We have added the option to print or skip the column headings for each of the 5 sections.

 


 

YC - Year End Checklist

We have added functionality similar to that found in the Client Enclosure Letter whereby individual lines can be set to skip/print and updated from the Resource Centre module using the right-click express button options.

 


 

JZCPL, JZLNR, LT, JZCD, JZCPL, JZLAMORT - Loan Calculator and Debt Working Papers

We have added the ability to include loans/leases which start after the fiscal year end.

 


 

KJ, KH - Related Party Transactions, Due to (from) Related Parties notes

Increased the number of related party groups from 15 to 20.

  • Added a visual compare option when "Update section from Resource Centre" is selected in the express button menu. This provides the user with a comparison of what is currently in the client letter, versus what is in the Resource Centre (located in the lower window pane).

 

 

 


 

 

MS-JZMW Marketable Securities Working Papers

  • Summary of specified foreign property can now be sorted either manually or by country code. Once it has been sorted by country code, you can also add in subtotals as desired for each country using the "Insert subtotal" express button menu option.

 

 

 


 

 

G1 GST/HST Reconciliation - Quick Method

  • Added a table for adjustments to total revenue. Users can now insert either manual or linked lines into this area.
